STORY JUMPER

Storyjumper is a great tool for the English classroom.

It allows students to write and illustrate their very own stories. Plus.... they have the option of printing out their stories or purchasing a hardcover book.... written by them!
This fabulous site would be wonderful for all year groups! I will DEFINITELY be using it when we get back to school...and also to create books for my boys.

BITSTRIPS for schools

Bitstrips for Schools empowers students to make and share great comics without drawing a line, and lets teachers unlock the educational power of comics!

There are functions for building characters- including physical and personality traits,

functions for multi-authors of a comic strip and also the ability to print, email and share

all comic strips!

This could be an excellent way to get to get students to do Chapter or Act summaries, to

demonstrate existing knowledge and to develop creative writing skills.

PICS4LEARNING

Pics4Learning is a copyright-friendly image library for teachers and students.

The Pics4Learning collection consists of thousands of images that have been donated by students, teachers, and amateur photographers.

Unlike many Internet sites, permission has been granted for teachers and students to use all of the images donated to the Pics4Learning collection.

I have found this site to be of use when I have instructed girls to create keynote presentations to represent their learning and understanding.

The girls love being able to manipulate the images and have crafted some fabulous presentations!

Twiddla

"Twiddla calls itself a web-based meeting playground.

Not only is it a fun way to swap ideas about a website or image,

it’s incredibly useful as well." —webworkerdaily.com

Twiddla could be really useful in the classroom! The girls can set up

"meetings" which is as easy as visiting the Twiddla site and

clicking "start new meeting."

The girls then share the address of their particular meeting

and everything they put on their whiteboard is visible on

the whiteboards of everyone at the 'meeting'!

It means that everyone has the brainstorm, the list,

the answers or whatever it is they need to record.

I'm a big fan and will definitely be using Twiddla in my

English classroom for brainstorming, groupwork,

modeling and explaining.

This is a fabulous site- it offers information on how to make a podcast, gives a "story maker" website, shows how to design a webpage, provides links to webquests and shows how these activities link to the new Australian Curriculum.

Pretty damn good, methinks!!

Trial and Error....

I have very quickly discovered two things about ICT. The first is how addictive it can be and the

second is the importance of trial and error.

Just messing around, trialling things and basically getting familiar with the technology is really helping me!

I just figured out how to add a picture.

That's one small step for James or Vanessa and one giant leap for me!
